The site has a new access from a 4-arm roundabout on Glenconnor Road, with the existing entrance and boundary walls to South Tipperary Hospital being realigned. Additionally, a new vehicular entrance was created for the proposed CNU and existing buildings on the west side of the site. The existing vehicular entrance was modified to serve as a pedestrian-only point of access. The previous road became a pedestrian access point and was realigned with new steps to connect with the new road to the south of the site.
In order to make way for the new development, Hillview – a two-story derelict house – and 2 associated outbuildings were demolished. The existing hedging, boulders, and footpaths within the site was also removed, and temporary fencing was installed on the western perimeter of the site between the previous road and St. Anthony’s. Other works include the construction of a new ESB sub-station, provision of a new attenuation tank in place of the existing one, and diverting existing services, as well as installing new underground services, including mains water, foul and storm drainage, telecoms, data, gas mains, and ESB ducting. New street lighting requiring new connections into the existing board in Luke’s Hospital will also be installed. It should be noted that all works carried out were on an active hospital campus, with hospital activities continuing uninterrupted during the delivery of these works.
